To come and be encouraged as we work together to be better equipped to minister to the many needs represented in our churches

The Vision of the Shepherd Summit

On December 18th, 2019, Pastor Shiflett and Pastor Gray met on a Wednesday night after church in Longview, Texas. They discussed their burden for a place where pastors and their staff could meet and be reminded of the biblical responsibilities of the under-shepherd. They shared their burning passion for the New Testament local church and their love for God’s people. They discussed their desire to rebuild the trust of hurting people and their commitment to restoring the credibility of the church – both with its members as well as those in our communities. Their burden was solidified after a six-hour conversation that went until the wee hours of the morning. After much prayer and more conversations in the following weeks, the Shepherd Summit was born.

We invite any pastor, pastor’s wife, staff member, deacon, missionary, or ministry leader to come and be encouraged as we work together to be better equipped to minister to the many needs represented in our churches. People are hurting and it is our wonderful opportunity to love them, help them, teach them and with God’s help, restore them to the fold where they can grow in grace and reach their full potential as a part of His flock.

Our Mission Statement is taken from the following verses.

1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. - I Peter 5:1-4

The Mission Statement of the Shepherd Summit

The Shepherd Summit is a conference where the biblical guidelines found in I Peter 5:1-4 are expounded and encouraged. We will strive to present a pastoral philosophy of leadership without lordship, oversight without overreach and what it means to be an under-shepherd with Christ, the chief Shepherd as our example. We fully recognize that as pastors, we are placed as overseers of His heritage; His flock which He hath purchased with His own blood.

It is our prayer to influence pastors to love, to listen and to learn; all while pursuing leadership where truth is tempered with grace. We believe a biblical balance can be found that produces compassion without compromise, influence without intimidation and motivation without manipulation. Feeding the flock, caring for them and meeting their spiritual needs the way the Lord Jesus Christ intended is our ultimate goal. We simply desire to bring glory to Him by doing our part to restore integrity, transparency and accountability to the office of the pastor.
